While you are at Fish Lake, you can visit Capitol Reef National Park.  Capitol Reef is only 38 miles from Fish Lake and is one of the least crowded and certainly the most surprising of the state's national parks. This is a place the Indian inhabitants called "The Land of the Sleeping Rainbow."  Encompassing nearly one quarter-million acres, the park features colorful cliffs, massive domes, twisting canyons and miles of slick rock wilderness.  The park preserves the 100 mile long Waterpocket fold, a giant sinuous buckling of rock in the earth's crust.

There are numerous hiking trails in Capitol Reef National Park.  These trails range from 2/3 mile to 10 miles and vary from flat river walks to strenuous climbs.  Maintained trails lead to natural bridges, arches, petroglyphs and dramatic goose necks and overlooks.  This is the best way to see the amazing formations and plant and animal habitats of Capitol Reef.
